Great Restaurant in Hampton Roads Virginia

Unfortunately, this restaurant has closed. If you are in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia, specifically in the Portsmouth/Suffolk/Chesapeak section, there is a great restaurant that you should try. It's called The River Bistro and it's located on Bridge Road in Suffolk on RT 17.
The River Bistro has a warm and inviting decor. You will feel at home as soon as you walk in. There are handcrafted water birds all around and beautiful stained glass hangings, warm woods and lovely floral arrangements.
The staff is courteous and helpful and the food is absolutely delightful.
My husband and I went for dinner on the recommendation of some friends.
We started off the evening with some appetizers - I had the calamari and he had the blackened tuna bites.
The calamari was standard fare, but quite well cooked and tender. The tuna bites had a surprisingly nice kick and the dill sauce was outstanding.
Next we each ordered from the Specials menu. I had the filet with a delightful wine sauce, a baked sweet potato (whipped potatoes were on the menu but I asked for the sweet potato and there was no problem with the substitution) and spinach. The sweet potato was a delight with the steak and the sauce. The flavors blended beautifully.
My husband had the Grouper and brocolli with a baked potato - also from the Specials menu.
Both were delicious. My steak was mouth-wateringly tender! mmmmmmm.
For dessert we chose the apple dumpling which came on a plate surrounded by four generous scoops of vanilla ice cream! And it was complimentary because it was my birthday! The apple was surrounded by a marvelous crispy tender crust.
And to top it all off, there was live music by Dave and Dave - a marvelous band that set up on the bar side of the restaurant.
We had a lovely evening out that we will remember for a long time. |
